 It's a Cyber-Shower!!!
Most of you know, or know of, Joel and
Terri Datica, and their beautiful little son, Diego.
He just turned 4 years old November, 2008. His twin brother,
Javier, was stillborn and 6 months later Diego was diagnosed with
microcephaly and cerebral palsy. For those of you who
know Diego, you will have to agree that he is one of the
happiest, most joyful little boys ever created.
His father, Joel, works hard every day
to keep the family going; Terri is Super Mom. She has been
taking Diego to school and therapy sessions every day, as well as all
of the things that mothers do each day. Nobody has ever heard her
complain about it and it’s a huge job just being a mother, let
alone a mother to a child with special needs.
The little Datica family is now about
to become much bigger as another set of twin boys will arrive in
March, 2009. Here is the problem, friends:
Terri's doctor has already put her on full time bed rest. She is a
very high risk pregnancy based on the problems of her first pregnancy
with Javier and Diego. Carrying around a 4 year old is impossible as
she can’t even leave her bed. Joel’s construction work
is on hold due to winter weather and other friends and family have
volunteered to go help with Diego. But Joel can’t do it all alone.
It will be even more difficult for Terri after the twins are born via
c-section as she will not be allowed to do any heavy lifting for 3
months post partum.
The problems this family is going to
encounter have definitely not reached their peak. To
hire a nanny or helper to assist her get Diego in and out of bed,
into his highchair for meals, in and out of the car for
therapy sessions, school, etc, is not in the budget. It wouldn't
be for most families. Many of us are very concerned
about Terri’s health as well as a safe delivery of the twins and an
easy recuperation period after the c-section. We recently
held a benefit and received some nice donations, but nothing that
would equal getting some in-home help for her, and they do not
qualify for this type of assistance. There is also a list
of special items the family will need once the twins arrive:
WISH LIST: Joovy
Big Caboose Stand-On Tandem on Triple Stroller - Black: It carries the two babies plus has a bench part on the back facing the
pusher where Diego can sit. Its $379.99.
Britax Roundabout Convertible Car Seats (2)
Additional items on Babies "R: Us site, register Datica
NOTE: the following items are NOT needed: cribs, highchairs, dressers, clothes and blankets.
So what can we do? A group
of concerned friends have been giving it much thought, and have
accepted that there is no one person who might be able to fix
this situation. However, maybe with many people making small
contributions, we can help. This is a cyber baby shower
for the Datica family! If you have any of the items on the wish list
that you would like to donate, it would be a blessing and a great
help. If you’re willing to make a financial donation, no matter how
small, it will add up and hopefully we will be able to provide this
special family with the things they need to get through this
difficult time. At this time, the saying “It takes a community”
definitely applies. So please, if you have anything to offer no
matter how small, it will make a huge difference in the life of this
family.
You may give through Pay Pal using Terri's email address terridatica@gmail.com. Also Scott, Terri's brother will be in Akumal until February 25th if you want to give your gift to him. Scott has promised to post pictures of the family as soon as the twins are born.
