Welcome to the monthly newsletter from Sac-Be.com, your

please e-mail us at info@sac-be.com. Enjoy!
If you think we're running a little late this month, you are correct. Our publisher, Lydia Linton Pontius, lost her dad on August 7. It was unexpected, though he was 89
years young—still driving and dating.
John Harvey Linton (1920–2010) died early Saturday morning at his home in Winterville, N.C. Mr. Linton was an exceptional man, even for his generation. Born and raised in Kinston, N.C., he attended Marion Military Academy in Alabama before receiving a congressional appointment to West Point. Upon graduating, Lieutenant Linton learned to fly fighter planes and flew for the Army Air Corp in the Pacific Theater during WW II. (watch this video of Mr. Linton talking about escorting Gary Cooper and starlets from Australia to New Guinea.) Following the war, Captain, Major, then Lt. Colonel Linton served in various positions in
the U.S. and Germany while starting a family. After leaving the military, he worked for IBM in New York and then moved to New England before moving back
home to North Carolina as a professor of computer sciences at two different universities. "Back home," John met his future wife, Nan, with whom he would
spend 22 years traveling the world.
The sadness of losing John/dad is more than offset by our memories, and by the kindnesses and stories of all the people we heard from who knew this
wonderful man. He will be missed, and, more importantly, he will be remembered.

Turtle Update – New turtles are on the move! As of last week, CEA has protected 203 sea turtle nests here in Akumal this season, and wished
"buen viaje" to 1,331 new sea turtle hatchlings! We still have quite a ways to go this season, but the little guys are off to a great start! :) Thanks for helping us be there for them!
Women In Wellness Retreat is approaching soon, and you won't want to miss some of the great events they have planned. Check out the updated
schedule and RSVP. There is limited space at La Selva Mariposa for that weekend part of the retreat, a perfect short get away for locals. Many
of the presenters are offering free admission to their workshops or classes in exchange for taking your class for free. This means if you teach a
pilate class and the yoga instructor attends for free, then you, the pilate instructor, can take her yoga class for free. What a great way to try new
things and meet new people.
Come meet up with Marco, Heather and Ulf in the south of Italy of Extreme Control Watersports in Tulum.
They will be kiting, partying, and enjoying the sun, food and wine in Calabria for the month of August. If you are looking for a cool place
to go on holiday to learn or master your kiteboarding skills, join them in Italy! Contact them for accommodations and lessons! And

Dive Tip of the Month
|
 |
|
A rainy day can be a great day to scuba dive. If there is thunder and lightning, it is a good idea to get out of the water, and
turbid water may force us to dive another day. On the other hand, if it is just cloudy and/or raining, underwater may be the most fun place to
be! The beach or the Maya ruins may not be that much fun in the rain, but getting a little wet on the way to and from the dive site does not
change much when you plan to spend most of your time underwater. If the air is chilly from the rain, then add a wet suit to help keep you warm
and enjoy your rainy day ... underwater!

Pedaling Toward Fifty – On May 25, 2002, Lou and I gathered
together with our friends and family on the beach in Galveston, Texas, where we released live butterflies as a symbol of a new beginning, and
shared the vows we wrote to one another. The sea and the world around us has been a passion for us as a couple, so we concluded our ceremony
with an exchange of "gifts of nature" and these words, while all the while one of the released butterflies sat perched on Lou's shirt pocket
over his heart.

Hekab Be Summer Program – Our summer program this year focused on the theme of "win health"! During the program, participating
children were able to learn a lot about eating right, the nutritional values that contribute to improved health, and how the body works. The activities that the children participated in were varied and fun, for both the kids and library staff.

There is a new reverend in town! One of our local residents of Akumal has just added a new service to his long list. Many of you know him as
the "car guy" or the "pirate." Most of you refer to him as Redbeard. Well, now you can refer to him as Reverend Redbeard! Yes, it is true! He is
an officially ordained minister. He will be available to perform weddings, baptisms and funerals. He will be specializing in the less-traditional
ceremonies, such as: underwater ceremonies, alternative unions and, of course, the free-spirited barefoot beach weddings. If the occasion requires,
he will be able to put on a nice pair of pants, shirt and shoes for those with a more conservative style. However, his specialty/style will be to
cater to those with adventure and creativity.

To adopt a kitten from Coco's Cat Rescue, you will be asked to give a donation of 250 pesos. This includes the spay/neuter of the kitten. You also will be asked to bring a copy of your ID and proof of where you live. In addition, we will ask you to fill out the adoption form and ask you some questions. We do all we can to ensure that the kittens are going to the best of homes!
Cross-border adoptions are very easy. We sort out all the paperwork and can help find a "mule" if you are unable to take the kitten home yourself. You will be responsible for paying the flight fee and the adoption fee of 250 pesos.
