HB’s New Library Angels Program

We are very pleased to announce the beginning of our “Library Angels” program. This program has been created to encourage folks to become monthly sponsors of the library. The amount given each month is entirely up to the sponsor and can be automatically deducted from the sponsor’s bank account with Bill Pay or through the library’s blog Paypal account.

We are working hard to plan for the future of Hekab Be and this program is one of the steps we are taking to ensure that the library will be in Akumal, for all of the children who want to attend for many years to come. Since the library is 100% donation driven, it is our goal to create regular monthly income to supplement our fundraisers. The money donated will be used for the library’s monthly expenses, supplies and most important of all, to pay our teachers. Paying our teachers amounts to about 75% of the library’s operating expenses. Each quarter we will send out library updates directly to all of the Library Angels so that they can be kept up to date on the activities and goings on at the library.

As a bonus, Debby Oakley, a long time library supporter has issued a challenge to begin the nurturing of this wonderful program:

For every Angel pledging to contribute monthly via Bill Pay or PayPal, I will provide a match, dollar for dollar; up to U.S. $2,000. That is, I will contribute up to U.S. $2,000 if "Library Angels" pledge up to that amount for at least a 12-month period. This challenge is good until December 31, 2011.

Please visit our blog http://hekabbe.blogspot.com/ to sign up and remember, the donation amount is solely up to the sponsor, there is no minimum or maximum amount required to participate. For questions directly related to the Library Angels program, please email: hekabbe@aol.com

Getting Ready for Children’s Day April 30th is Dia de los Niños here in Mexico and every year we have a small celebration for the children who come to the library on a regular basis. This year we are pleased to be able to give toys to all the kids, thanks to an extremely generous donation made by Jessica Ulrich (and her parents who helped) & Kristin Isaac, two inspired high school students from Michigan who decided to do a fundraiser for Hekab Be at their church!

We love it when young people from elsewhere reach out to help the children here in Akumal, and what better way than to help us give the kiddos here a wonderful Children’s Day Celebration! Jessica and Kristin got their first taste of Walmart here in Mexico where they shopped up a storm, bringing not only toys but many art and school supplies, books, and a few goodies too. They dropped the materials off at the library, met Carlos our assistant director, and saw the kids busy at work. They said it was a great experience and they hope to do it again next year!
