September 2009 Back to School
The library will re-open on September 14th after taking a short break to reorganize and get ready for the new school year. We will be operating with a new schedule when we reopen: 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday (closed 1-1:30 for lunch) 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday Closed Saturday afternoon and Sunday Just because we’re closed, doesn’t mean we’re not busy! Staff and local children have been hard at work cleaning, sorting and arranging books. In return for contributing their time to help maintain the library, school children are being awarded the school supplies they need to start the new year. Of course, we can only give these supplies thanks to the generous donations of our all the library friends and supporters who have brought these materials to the library, so thank you on behalf of Akumal’s school children! Loco Gringos Do it Again! A fundraiser raffle of an original painting; Tremendous gratitude to Gary (SS47) for his generous contribution of another of his Tortuga oil paintings and other prizes. He along with great graphic artist Mark (Grump) helped put on a successful raffle complete with its own website. You can view the results here: http://hakebbebano.com They helped raise over $2600.00 US for the library’s bathroom renovation. Special thanks to Tom & Maggie Cochran for once again organizing the Annual Loco Gringo Labor Day party at Lol-Ha. They helped raise funds for the library with items donated by Gary B., Steve D’s new book, that were raffled off during the party. Every little bit counts, especially during the low-slow season!!
