little over 5lb each. They will be in the hospital over the weekend.
UPDATES MARCH 11, 2009
After much whining, crying, and begging to my doctor, he
gave in and rescheduled my c-section from the 18th to TOMORROW!!!! J These
little boys will be here by about 3pm Thursday afternoon J That
statement “I’m so happy I could cry”…. Totally an
understatement for the relief and happiness I’m feeling J
I’m delivering at Shawnee Mission
Medical Center…
I know they’ll keep me & the boys for 3 nights, so feel free to come
visit this weekend, or when we get home. Uncle Scott will be in charge of
calling & emailing everyone (he’ll have my phone).
Thank you for all your support through all of this… it’s
been an incredible 8 & ½ months!!
Love to all,
Terri
March 7, 2009 - Datica family
Here is a small update. ……
leading up to the BIG update that is scheduled to occur on or before
March 18, 2009.
Terri is feeling…….. well, much
like a lump of motherhood right now – very restricted and
uncomfortable, as you might imagine, but even though she describes
herself as having “pregnant brain” she is hanging in there, as
always! Doctor’s reports show everything as going smoothly, under
the circumstances, etc. so she is counting the days (as well as
minutes, hours, etc.) until the big day! If she does not go into
labor sooner – Lydia is pulling for HER birthday, Friday – March
13th) we are scheduled to welcome Alexander
Amado and Cody Christopher at 7:30 a.m. on March 18, 2009! Dad is
ready – Diego can’t wait to see the “gagies” – Mom is
CERTAINLY ready – Uncle Scott and Marieke are ready and waiting –
the excitement is certainly building! Scott and Marieke are there –
doing what they do, and doing it wonderfully (what a great brother,
no?)
Terri received so many
contributions, gifts, well wishes, etc. from her Akumal “family”
and their help will certainly make things go much smoother……. A
huge THANK YOU to all of you! Also – it must be mentioned that
Suzanne was Terri’s angel during her recent visit. She cooked,
cleaned, entertained Diego – you name it! She even cooked multiple
dinners that could be frozen for later use, so that Terri wouldn’t
have to worry about those kinds of things – HUGE hugs to you,
Suzanne – you are a true friend! You can bet that even though they
won’t allow me in the delivery room (thank goodness!) I’ll be in
the hallway waiting to get a look at them right away!
So: Mark your calendars – give
them your thoughts and prayers at 7:30 a.m. on March 18th……..
I’m sure that Uncle Scott will have photos as soon as possible!
Will provide update when the boys are here safely.

Recently it came to our attention that the Datica Family, needs our help. When we received the emails with a fabulously easy way to help, we at Sac-Be International, Inc., knew we had to share the information with everyone.
Terri Datica, is expecting twins and with the care of her son Diego being a full time job she needs help. The doctors have pronounced her an at-risk pregnancy and without assistance she will increase the chances of complications. Terri's good friend, Cheryl Reagan, suggested we contact Ellen DeGeneres in hopes she would help.
Below are several emails, and a sample letter to the Ellen DeGeneres Show along with some great photos of the Daticas. Please join in - it is a really easy way to help this wonderful family, just go to www.ellentv.com and click where it says "email Ellen." Here is additional information for the Datica family, Cel: 913-484-5677 Mailing Address: 12926 South Blackfoot Drive Olathe, Kansas 66062
By the way...they just found out they are having two little boys!!!
From Mary Henderson:
Dear All-
I think the e-mail below written by Cheryl Ragan about Terri
Datica is an important one. For those of you who don't know Cheryl,
she is a long-time resident of Akumal (Casa Maleno) and a dear friend.
Terri Brown Datica grew up in Akumal; many of us have had the privilege
to see a young teen mature into a responsible adult who has faced
seemingly insurmountable odds.
So, I'm doing as Cheryl suggests--writing to a TV personality,
Ellen DeGeneres, to ask that the Datica family be considered for the
kind of help Ellen provides through her show.
If you have the time to help this young family, please send your
e-mail to Ellen (see the e-mail address listed at the end of Cheryl's)
and then pass the information on to everyone in your Address Book.
Many of you receiving my e-mail I see everyday--others our contact
has been less brief but just as important to me. As I review my day, I
can say I've done something today that is good--all too rare an
occurrence!
Thanks for taking the time to read all of this, but mostly thanks
for your actions on behalf of the Datica family................Warm
Akumal Regards, Mary Henderson From Cheryl Reagan:
Dear Friends and family,
I am writing to ask a favor. Some of you know my little "adopted
family" and some do not. They are Joel and Terri Datica, and their
beautiful little son, Diego. Diego has C.P. and he will turn 4 years
old next month. His twin brother, Javier, was stillborn, which
resulted in Diego's diagnosis. For those of you who know Diego, you
will have to agree that he is one of the happiest, most joyful little
boys ever created. His daddy, Joel, works hard every day to keep the
family going, and Terri - what can I say? She is my hero. She
unselfishly takes Diego to school and therapy sessions EVERY day, as
well as all of the things that mommies do EVERY day. I can honestly
say that I've never heard her complain about it, and believe me, it's a
JOB. The little Datica family is now about to become much bigger, as
another set of TWINS will arrive in March, 2009. Here is the problem,
friends: Terri's doctor has already instructed her to GET HELP before
the beginning of 2009 - she is high risk pregnancy, based on past
pregnancy, of course, and carrying around a 4 year old - 24/7 - is NOT
conducive to ALSO carrying TWINS 24/7. Each morning, she "scoots" down
the stairs from the bedrooms on her behind, and is teaching Diego to
"slide" down on his little tummy while she keeps him from sliding too
far or too fast, of course. We all know that this is a very temporary
solution and that the problems she is going to encounter have
definitely not reached their peak! To hire a nanny/helper, etc. to
help her get Diego in and out of bed, into his highchair for meals, in
and out of the car for therapy sessions, school, etc. is NOT in the
budget, as it wouldn't be for most of us. Personally, I am very afraid
for her - AND for the new twins. We recently held a benefit, but
nothing that would equal getting some in home help for her, and they do
not qualify for this type of assistance. So: What can we do? I've
given it much thought, and have accepted that there is no one person
that I know who might be able to "fix" this situation. However, maybe
with MANY people, we can help. I am asking for NO MONEY, but maybe
about 5 minutes of your time. With all of the forwarded email
"prayers" - "chain letters" - "keep this going" things that we all
receive, most seem like a pain, unless they're funny. This isn't
funny. I got the idea to write to the Ellen DeGeneres show, as I see
her helping people all of the time, so last night, I went to the web
site, and wrote an email. I couldn't begin to tell her how special
this little family is, as the email had to be brief, of course, but
then, in the night, it occurred to me - "What if she received LOTS of
email requests for the Daticas??" This is all that I am asking. I'm
hoping that if YOU will write to her to ask for help, and possibly
forward this on to YOUR email friends, etc. we can get someone's
attention. Yes - I know that we're all busy and have our own things to
deal with, but it literally takes only 5 minutes or less. If everyone
begins their email with "I am writing to you about Terri Datica" - if
you don't know her, you know ME, and you know that I wouldn't ask if it
wasn't so very important that together, we try to get them some help.
That's it - a simple email. If we can get someone's attention who has
the power to help, then isn't it worth the 5 minutes of our time? God
bless us all, if we have healthy children that we're able to care for,
etc. - I think it's time to "pay it forward." They need us, and we
need more people like them. If you simply do not have the time, then
possibly you will at least take a moment to forward to a friend who
might..........just go to www.ellentv.com and click where it says "email Ellen."
Thank you so much for considering.
Cheryl Ragan From the Director of Joel's school - to Ellen DeGeneres:
I am writing to you about Terri Datica...
I met Terri Datica over two years ago when she called me begging to
enroll her son in our early intervention program. As the director of the Lee Ann Britain Infant
Development Center,
I was speaking at a local charity music festival, Jazz in the Woods in Overland Park, KS
which is put on by the Overland Park South Rotary Club. Terri, her husband,
Joel, and their son Diego had just happened to drive by and see the large event
and decided to spend the afternoon there. I spoke on the stage about our
program, the services we provide to young children with disabilities, and
thanked the crowd for supporting us.
The next work day, Terri called me frantic to get into the program
because she believed that perhaps this was the reason they had came from
Mexico, where they were living to Kansas City. Diego, at the age of two
was not able to sit or use his hands or talk when he came to us. He is
now an almost four year old who sits, can almost feed himself, walks with a
walker, and tells everyone "hi" and "see ya, bye
bye". His smile warms the heart of everyone who meets him.
Diego has cerebral palsy as a result of his identical twin brother
dying in utero at 34 weeks and causing Diego to have a stroke. Diego is
going to be a big brother in a few months. Much to Terri's surprise, she
learned that she is carrying two babies, fraternal twins. While
Diego has made tremendous strides, he is dependent upon others to help him with
nearly everything. Now two babies are on the way to join this
family. Ellen, the Datica family needs your help. They are an amazing
family with an amazing story. Please, find it in your heart to help them
in any way that you can! Thank
you!
Amy Milroy His FAVORITE thing about school... they are VERY expensive -
insurance does not provide for one at home, in case
anyone might "donate" one ...........
