A Little Local Trivia
|
 |
|
It was suggested by one of our readers that we post photos and see who can remember the people,
places and time. Each month we will post a photo and see who can figure out where the photo
was taken or who the people are. This month's photo was submitted by Judy Withington. We
will give you a hint it was taken in 1993 - the questions are - what team is this, where was
it taken, how many can you name and where are they now.
Have fun, submit your guesses and we will post them on
the sac-be website. Feel free to play along by submitting your photo.

RV'ing from Paamul to Laguna Bacalar - Nan and I had been living at the RV park in Paamul since January 1, 2003. It had
been a tremendous experience being in Mexico for that long, getting to know the locals and
meeting gringo snowbirds as they drifted through, and generally enjoying the heck out of
everything. But reality finally reared its ugly head...

What’s Old is New Again - Modern luxury merges with ancient culture at a seaside resort
in the Riviera Maya - by Lucia Stoller
Traveling to the tropics of the Riviera Maya is not only adventurous
- it’s also incredibly fun for families. The Fairmont Mayakoba, nestled on the Yucatan
Peninsula along the Caribbean Sea, is an exceptional resort for parents and children. With
impeccable service and entrancing surroundings, the Fairmont Mayakoba combines the best of
both the modern and the ancient world.

Lessons in Nature Along the Mariposa Trail
My husband, Lou, and I have had a lifetime of learning from nature during the four years we
have lived in the village of Macario Gomez in the Yucatan. We moved to our jungle hidaway,
La Selva Mariposa, from Vail, Colorado, in June 2005 to resettle near Tulum on the fashionable
Mayan Riviera. [We had the incorrect link to this article in last month's issue]

Working to Create a Sea Turtle Refuge in Akumal
Threats to the local populations of endangered sea turtles are increasing as tourism
development grows in the Riviera Maya. Akumal is characterized by its marine and coastal
environments, representing a favorite habitat for sea turtle populations [Caretta Caretta
(Loggerhead), Chelonia mydas (Green) and Eretmochelys imbricada (Hawksbill)]. They use the
beaches, grasslands and reefs as nesting sites, feeding, breeding and growing areas. Akumal
gets its name from these phenomena – “The Place of Turtles" in Maya.
