What Can I Do? - by Barb Eller
Patrick and I were walking along the Malecón one day and a couple from the cruise ship stopped to talk and asked, "What do you do when you spend the winter here?" For one of the few times in my life I was tactful, kept my mouth shut, and let Patrick answer, because in my head I was shouting. "What!!!" ...

Taking an Ecological Inventory - by Mari Pintkowski
When I drive the beach road in Tulum, and see signs that say Eco-Chic or Eco-Resort, I wonder if this really means more than being off the electrical grid and having to use solar, wind, propane or diesel to power their systems or is there more to the use of these terms? ...
by Natalie Novak – Some fellow Canadians named Roger and Isabell recently joined Ivan and me for five days of diving. They brought their own camera and we passed it around among everyone. In our time together we took lots of lovely pictures. We had an over-200-pound female loggerhead turtle flirt with us, swam with lots of green and hawksbill turtles, and even found some baby spotted drum. Thanks so much to Roger and Isabell for sharing these pictures; we had a lovely time taking them.
Dive Tip #1: It's fun to take pictures underwater but, if you are the only one taking pictures, you will never be in them. If you pass the camera around, you are more likely to be in a few shots.
Dive Tip #2: It's not easy to get divers and wildlife in the same frame, especially without disturbing the animals you want in your photos. The best way I have found is to put the aquatic life in the foreground, leaving lots of space in the background of the shot for the diver to pass by.
Are You Killing Me? Or Are You Killing Time? - by Enrique (Henry) Saldana
To all Sellers out there: As I have been saying in previous reports, articles, and e-mails, we are on a Buyer's Market Cycle. Meaning, you might have to adjust your expectations with regards to selling your property during these times. Or, you might want to wait and sell when the market turns into a Seller's Market again.
Aventuras Akumal Condo -
The condo is a beach-level, ocean front condo. Sitting on the patio, you have a clear view of the crystal clear blue Caribbean waters, the condo pool, and beach volleyball court. There is a full kitchen which, along with the bathroom/shower, has just been retiled.
Casa de Playa Mexicana -
Casa De Playa Mexicana is a charming private home offering 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, with AC throughout. The outdoor living space consists of a private patio, refreshing swimming pool, garden, perimeter lighting and a rooftop patio that is perfect for star gazing or sunbathing.
Update from Hekab Be Library, June 2011 - by Eleanor Zucker - The HB summer course has become a staple summer activity for many families in Akumal, especially since there are few other similar options for kids during their summer break. Thanks to the intensive efforts of our staff in planning and carrying out the summer program, the children who attend make great academic and social advancements during their vacation.
PET OF THE MONTH
Coco's Cat Rescue - To adopt a kitten, you will be asked to give a donation of 250 pesos. This includes the spay/neuter, vaccinations and deparasiting of the kitten. You will be asked to bring a copy of your ID and proof of where you live. We will also ask you to fill out the adoption form and ask you some basic, general questions.
Due to increasing prices of supplies, housing for the crews, shipping and other things, the cost of these clinics has risen to an average of $9,000 per clinic! All of this money comes from private donations. Last year ViDAS safely sterilized nearly 760 animals in 6 days. This means that each animal averages less than $12. So for every $12 donated, you are helping save an animal's life, while helping control the population. If you would like to help or donate, please contact ViDAS.
Leticia Córdova reports that the Biblioteca Frida Kahlo is working regularly at the Telesecundaria José Vasconcelos in the mornings. The municipality is taking care of the salary for the day librarian. We now need the salary for Jesús Perez Ponce ($5,000 pesos a month) as librarian for the afternoons and evenings, for the adults to read as well. Nancy Poor and La Boutique Akumal have been collaborating for a long time and we were able to finally pay for the furniture. That donation also will help support the afternoon librarian's salary.
June 21 at 6 PM an exciting food festival and fundraising event is being held to support the Tulum Living School Project and this year's recipient school is "Huricanes Kinder." The event will take place at Charlie's Restaurant and Bar in the Tulum Pueblo.
October 5-8 - Women In Wellness will be traveling to Charleston, S.C. where our publishers reside. We will be back in Mexico in 2012 for our Retreat. If you are interested in participating or presenting, please contact Lydia at email@example.com.
Daily - Yoga en Akumal now has yoga 6 days a week. Stop by to check the schedule.
Michelle Bradshaw - After making a trip to Cancun in 1998, Michelle decided that she wanted to move to Mexico. In 2009 she became an empty nester and was able to turn that dream into a reality. Her daughter lives in Canada and her two step-daughters live in Australia.
Above is the new look for Sac-Be.com. Because the site is so large, it will take a while to implement the new design, but we did give a couple of our biggest advertisers a close-up look. Here's what they had to say:
It looks great and I am tracking the
many referrals we get from Sac-Be.com. Thanks for all that you do.
This looks very nice ... I love the new look.
