Akumal Villas has a new owner - Diane and Denny Mahan have sold their successful villa
rental business to Rhett Schoeber. Mike and Lydia had the pleasure of
joining Denny and Diane for lunch while they were in Charleston, SC, a trip they won at
the Third Annual CEA Festival's Live Auction last February. During lunch Denny and
Diane talked about selling their business. They are very excited
about Rhett's plans for Akumal Villas and
Riviera Maya Villas. Several years ago, Lydia and Mike worked with Diane to create the
Riviera Maya Villas sites.

Q & A with CEA |

Question: I understand that to protect the turtles, night snorkeling with lights is
not allowed. Can you tell me which months night snorkeling is allowed?
Thanks - Dave Cunningham
Answer: Dear Dave, Thank you for your question and for taking into account the turtles
during nesting season. Night snorkeling is OK from November to the end of April in the area
of Akumal. During nesting season, April to September, the turtles are mating and then the
females are coming to shore to nest, and the babies are going out to sea until November.
Artificial light disorients all the turtles, so, again, thanks for thinking of them when
making your snorkel plans.
Best, Paul - Director, Centro Ecológico Akumal
