Greetings from the Peanut Pet Shelter March 2009

Last month, you may recall, we received 27 tons of calica (sand/gravel mix) to spread on the property.

A daunting task awaited us. We put the word out for volunteer wheelbarrows, shovels, rakes and strong backs. The response was outstanding!

Andy had worked during the week to get the mountains down to workable size (kudos to Andy) in preparation for our work force.

The following photos give you an idea of the response.

It was an incredible effort by all. We had first time locals, folks on holiday, the regulars and kids alike.

This effort is going to make a huge difference in the quality of life for these pups. Not only to keep the mud down, but also because ticks and fleas seem to abhor calica. Getting the tick population down is incredibly important to us (and the pups!)

After two weeks of working the site, we are now able to get back to our routine of having our Saturday Puppy Wash Day. It’s become quite the event around here. We regularly get messages and emails form folks visiting the area who want to make the Saturday Wash Day a part of their vacation schedule.

It’s good for all. The pups get that one on one attention they crave so much and we get to be a part of connecting with these pups, socialize with our old and new friends and provide a service of washing, nail clipping and inspecting the pups for any conditions that may normally be missed. It’s a great time and it’s held every Saturday at 1:00 at the Shelter.

And there is a reason for all of this. We want to find a home for all 80 of these dogs. It may not be realistic, but that’s what this is all about. To find a loving home where these pups can get the caring, one on one attention they deserve.

Last week we had a couple take eight puppies back to Canada for re-homing. They paid for all vaccinations, paperwork, transportation costs and they gave the Shelter much needed medications and food!!! AND…they said they would return and purchase carriers to take larger dogs back with them. It’s just incredible the people we meet!

DOG OF THE MONTH
Last month’s dog Max (aka) Trip is still available to a caring family.

This month’s special pup is…….

TROY - A two year old full blood Weimaraner.

He’s a large, lovable dog and needs the room , love and attention that this so desperately desires.
