The Mayans really knew what they were doing when they chose Zama, currently known as Tulum as their beach front property.  Tulum was not too long ago known as a hippie spot, and favorite for backpackers, but now has become a very popular location for upscale spa retreats and boutique resorts.  The beaches in Tulum are some of the most beautiful in the world boasting both crashing waves with small enclaves carved out of the limestone as well as some of the longest white sandy beaches. 

The city of Tulum is growing and that along with the beach front offers lots of choices in shopping and restaurants and of course the Tulum Ruins are right there.  Just past Tulum heading south on the beach road is the protected Sian Kaan Biosphere.
