Update from Hekab Be Library, December 2009 |
|
|
Upcoming Holiday Festivities at Hekab Be Making Wishes Come True Hekab Be will have its Christmas celebration on Tuesday, December 22nd at 3:30 p.m. PLEASE JOIN US IF YOU ARE IN TOWN! There will be singing, an exposition of Christmas-themed art work by the children, and readings of the winning stories from our Christmas Story Contest (see below). And of course, gifts will be given to the kids, and treats will be shared.
This year we are trying something new, we asked the kids to write down what they wished for, and we will do our best to get each child that gift. If you are interested in helping us make their wishes come true, please check our blog for the list of gifts requested by the kids, at: http://hekabbe.blogspot.com
We have also launched a Christmas Story Contest, wherein the children will write and illustrate their own stories. Prizes will be given in 2 categories, written stories for older children, and illustrated stories for younger children. Four grand prize winners will become the proud and happy owners of bicycles, made possible by generous donations from Cancun families, solicited by our new teachers who come on Saturday (see below).
Saturday teachers If you visit the library on Saturday morning you will find kids and adults in our classrooms, with 2 volunteer teachers who come each week from Cancun to share their time and expertise at Hekab Be. Sandra teaches English and Elizabeth teaches an ethics class. Both Sandra and Elizabeth have many years of experience teaching at the Colegio Cumbres Cancun, and we are lucky that they share their time with us every week!
Appreciation
Garden
One of the new projects at Hekab Be is the Appreciation Garden, in which the kids help put up plaques to honor people who come help out at the library. It’s a small way to say thank you and show our appreciation for the time and effort that many visitors make to do an art project with the kids, help improve our facilities, teach a class, or help in another way. The main goal in creating this garden
is to help the children who benefit from all the donations made to
the library develop a sense of gratitude for all that they receive at
Hekab Be, rather than taking it for granted. We believe that by
having visible signs with the names of those who have helped the
library, we create an environment of good will and kindness that will spread to those who come in contact with it. Library Hours of Operation We’ve adjusted our hours for the change in daylight savings time, so the kids are not walking home in the dark.
Our schedule is the following: Monday-Friday 9:30-5:30 (closed for lunch from 1-2:30) Saturday 9-1 Closed Sunday
Holiday Closures We will be closed on the following days: December 24th, 25th, 31st and January 1st

As one of Mexico's newly coveted hot-spots, the Riviera Maya has seen an explosion in the development of luxury resorts in the past decade. And they're no longer centered solely in Cancun. Playa del Carmen and Cozumel, in particular, are new favorites among TIMESHARE and hotel developers alike.
