Vista Del Mar Review 2009

If you are looking to be strategically placed on Half Moon Bay and want to walk right out your hotel door and step onto the sand, and the size of the room doesn't matter because you know you are not going to spend much time there then this is your spot! Looking to be located next door to the ever-popular La Buena Vida Restaurant, separated by only the pool? You have found your spot!

I arrived early afternoon, the manager was efficient, checked me in and walked me to my room. The air conditioner was extremely loud, but he explained to me all of them were like that. Mixing business with pleasure, I asked about WiFi. It is available in the condos or at the restaurant, he explained.

The property is older but well maintained and clean, though my room was in need of a few minor repairs. It also is apparently pet-friendly since the guest next door arrived with a dog.

There are a few nice shops directly across the street from La Buena Vida, convenience store at the end of the hotel and a dive shop next to the pool. The property also has condos available for larger groups.

If you are looking for the basics this place will certainly suit you. Having stayed at other places that either bent over backwards to win me over or welcomed me back like I had been away from home, this did neither, but not everyone is looking for that type of service. I will also say the reservations people, located in the states, and the Restaurant people were very pleasant and accommodating.

If I sound a bit disappointed, I was. I have come to expect the little extras when traveling along the Mayan Riviera, a place known for its friendly people. But this property is one of the original landmarks on the coast, and nothing can take away from location, location, location. And as I mentioned, it is as close as you can come to La Buena Vida which is a great bar and wonderful restaurant.
