Hotel Akumal Caribe, Villas Flamingo and the Akumal Dive Center participated recently in the World Travel Market Show in London, Nov. 7–10.
In the Mexico stand, we were in the section for the Riviera Maya. I went with my son, Jason, to work the show and promote our property with the European market. Jason was a great asset since he studied Business Administration for four years in London, and knows the Brits and London very well.
The head of the Tulúm Municipality was there, among other political representatives from Cancún and Playa del Carmen. We made several potential contacts.
The show opened at 10 a.m. every day and closed at 6 p.m. Jason and I took turns taking breaks. It was very enjoyable to walk through all the different sections and see so many countries represented. I picked up information for places I want to visit in the future.
One night the Mexico stand organized a party at a bar/restaurant with Mexican food. Another day the mariachi band came to play at our stand to attract people. Brazil was right in front of our booth, so we had plenty of entertainment with their band and dancers performing every day. Columbia was next to us and they were giving away the best espresso daily! What did we give away?????????? ... our smiles and the special brochures we made for the show.
One evening after the show, we took the Tube to Piccadilly to the theatre. Jason saw his buddy from University who was his roommate while studying in London, and I had dinner with Centro Ecológico Akumal Director Paul Sánchez-Navarro's sister who lives in London.
Then we went to Egypt to dive the Red Sea! That's another story...
