Costa Maya Accommodations

The Costa Maya  consists of the new resort area of Mahahual, that has grown up in the last decade since Mexico built a cruise ship terminal. What once was a very sleepy fishing village is now a bustling tourist town, as least when the cruise ships are in port. Further south, but not connected by a passable road on the coast, is Xcalak, a quiet Mayan fishing village. There are a couple of restaurants and a few small resorts up the coast north of town. It is very quaint and pictaresque, much like what towns like Akumal used to be like. If you plan on being in Xcalak for a few days, we suggest you take a boat ride down to Belize - experience a real culture shock. Inland you will find the wonderful Laguna Bacalar and its interesting historic fort and more.
