Yoga en Akumal: Summer 2013

by Marti Johnston (July 2013)

Once again we cycle through our summer season at Yoga en Akumal with a delicious mix of daily morning classes. As family, friends and visitors flow in and out of Akumal the yoga stays alive, moving and breathing. At the same time, the practices are intimate, inviting of possibility and welcoming to mixed levels of practitioners.

Each low season we take the opportunity to expand our faculty by inviting an emerging yoga teacher from our community onto the schedule. This year Sivananda Yoga-trained Michelle Bradshaw joins the party, reintroducing this profound Hatha practice to the studio 7:00 a,m, on Thursdays.

Long-practicing yogini Jennifer Smith, who has always been a willing substitute, has slid into the driver’s seat for a rocking Saturday Vinyasa flow. A recent visitor announced she had taken the “best yoga class of her life!” with Jen. She loves the play time, 8:30 a.m. Saturdays.

Our complementary practices have expanded. Isabel de la Fuenta continues with her weekly Friday acupuncture treatments. We continue to weave the alchemy and magic this Year of the Black Water Snake. Reiki Master Donna Carey is back in the house Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons. Energy and sound combine as she also rearranges subtle energies to align with auspiciousness. She will be offering a Reiki Level I Training July 25 and August 1.

As Michael and others in our yoga community roam the world, spreading the yoga love, Leticia, Sofia and Marti hold the Shakti in the Place of the Turtles. Investigating the nature of reality in the context of paradise keeps us entertained as Shri flows day by day, moment by moment in our prana house.
