My Mexican Favorites

Me on the beach in Akumal

Before I came to live with Mom and Dad, they drove their car all through Mexico and they did it with another dog named Maya. They tell me Maya was from Akumal, Mexico just like me, and that she had great adventures. So, I’m dedicating MY FAVORITES to Maya and including her favorites from her big Mexican adventure. And every time I go somewhere new with Mom and Dad I’ll put more places on this list, so check back all the time.

Restaurants

Akumal

Lolha:  This has to be my all-time favorite because it’s right on the beach and it’s got all kinds of great food. But most of all, Lolha is owned by my Mardrina and she loves all dogs, but especially me. I’ve tasted a lot of the food at Lolha and it’s all very good. They do everything from American-style chicken wings, to the Mexican food that Mom loves. The best, at least to me, is the cow meat. I’ve never seen a cow but I know they taste good.

Turtle Bay Café: I like this place, too. It’s across the road from Lolha and is very pretty and peaceful. The food is good and the owner’s, Bart and Jen, also really love dogs.

Puerto Aventuras

Latitude 20: This is my favorite place in my town for a whole lot of reasons. First, it’s right next to where some of my dolphin friends live, and Mom and Dad let me visit. Next, Latitude is owned by my very good friend, Jim. He and his girlfriend, Michele, love me so much that I sometimes get to stay with them when Mom and Dad go away. We call it Happy Camp because Jim’s dog is named Happy and he is crazy fun to watch. The other great things about Latitude are the food and music. I love the food, especially the burgers and the chicken. But sometimes my friend, Pablo, and his band play music too loud for my ears.

Cafe Ole: I like the food, especially the ribs and the brisket. Meat is my favorite. The owners love dogs and it’s always fun to watch all the people walk by.

Cozumel

Palmeras: I took the ferry boat to Cozumel one time and had a lot of fun. When we got there we ate at Palmeras and it was very good. And it’s also a great place to watch all the people on the street. I think it’s the most humans I’ve seen in one place ever.

Hotels and Lodging

Akumal

Hotel Akumal Caribe:  So this is the hotel my Madrina owns, it’s right next to Lolha and right on the beach. My favorite room is 401 because it’s right there on the sand, closest to the ocean. When we go, Mom and Dad let me lie on the beach chairs with them and I love to sleep in the shade up by the pool.

Villa Ak: We stayed here on my Dad’s 70th birthday. It was awesome. We had lots of friends stay and Mom liked it because each bedroom has its own private entrance. It’s pretty fancy and has its own beach access and a great pool. It’s also just a short walk down the beach to Lolha or across the road to Turtle Bay.

Tankah

Casa del Perro Feliz: This amazing 3-bedroom is right on the beach. We drove down in our car and it didn’t seem very far past Akumal. Mom tells people it’s just north of Tulum. I really like it because there’s always a nice breeze from the ocean and there’s lots of trees for shade. Mom and Dad love the pool and Mom likes that they have kayaks and bikes for people to use.

Bacalar

Casa del Arbol: This is my favorite lake house of all time. I also think it’s the only one I’ve ever visited. But the really cool thing about this place is that it’s right on the lake, with a covered dock for cool daytime sleeping, a nice yard with a fence all around and paddle boards and kayaks – I went kayaking with Mom and Dad one time. The house has three bedrooms and lots of places to lie around.

Cozumel

Casa Real: This is really fun house. It’s right in town near the huge place where humans go to move around, with a giant swimming pool, a running track (but not for dogs) and all kinds of other fun stuff. But the real weird thing about this house is that it has a slide from the roof down into the pool. Crazy.

Maya’s Favorites

Maya Alux

San Miguel de Allende

Villa Quebrada: was a place Maya Alux stayed in 2019.  It is centrally located and walking distance to all the sites.  A great 2-bedroom villa with parking.

Oaxaca

Casa 114: located in the heart of Oaxaca this great 2 bedroom was a favorite Maya’s.  Mom says she especially loved her walks through the cemetery at the end of the road. According to Mom, it was a lot like the one in the movie Coco.  The owners of the house were also great tour guides.

Palenque

Hotel Paraiso Inn: This is close to the Mayan ruins and is a pretty property on the edge of the jungle. Each room has its own room for your car. What?! Mom calls it “a lovely small Bed and Breakfast on a private road.”  Maya Alux loved her walks here where she saw toucans, macaws, howler monkeys and cows.  The host is a wonderful man and the rooms are comfortable and clean.
